Your trial balance in Excel, as at any date
Most month-end workbooks start from the trial balance. Blink pulls it from Xero or QuickBooks Online straight into Excel, as at the date you choose, onto a tab your lead schedules and reconciliations can read.
Pulling the trial balance
- In Excel, open Blink and choose Reports.
- Under Trial Balance, pick the as-at date and pull.
- The trial balance lands on its own tab, ready for your formulas.
Blink works with Xero and QuickBooks Online. New to Blink? Add it to Excel first.
Building on it
Because the trial balance always lands in the same place, the rest of the workbook can rely on it. Common patterns:
- Lead schedules that look up each account’s balance with XLOOKUP or SUMIFS.
- Balance sheet reconciliations that compare a subledger or schedule to the ledger.
- Prepaid, accrual and amortization schedules that check their closing balance against the account.
Pull the profit and loss and balance sheet the same way when you need them alongside it.
Refreshing it
The trial balance tab remembers its date, so Refresh re-pulls it after late adjustments, and Refresh All updates every Blink tab in the workbook together. When the next month closes, pull its trial balance the same way.
Questions
Does it work in Excel for the web and on the desktop?
Both, with a current Microsoft 365 subscription. Business Basic includes the web apps only, and Blink runs there too. Perpetual Office (2019, 2021) isn’t supported. More on supported plans.
Can IT add it for the whole team?
Yes. An admin can deploy Blink once from Integrated apps in the Microsoft 365 admin center, and it appears in Excel, Word and PowerPoint for the people they choose. See the admin steps.
Can you help set up our workbook?
Yes, that’s what we do. Email us about the workbook or process, attach it if you like, and we’ll show you how Blink fits.
